Today I will praise God for giving a perfect moral law without compromise, without shortcuts, without exceptions, for who would want a God who did otherwise. At the same time, “I must get rid of the lurking idea that I can ever be right with God because of my obedience; which of us could ever obey God to absolute perfection!” (Chambers, Utmost, December 1). The divine solution is that by faithfully choosing Christ I am accepted without any taint of sin and God’s perfect moral law is satisfied.
The perfect law—love—was given in the form of commandments (Matthew 22:37-40):
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Today I will approach God’s altar clothed in His perfect law.
