Today I will distinguish between my job and God’s job. “I cannot save and sanctify myself; I cannot atone for sin; I cannot redeem the world; I cannot make right what is wrong, pure what is impure, holy what is unholy. That is all the sovereign work of God.” (Chambers, Utmost, October 9)

God’s job is to make holy what was once holy. God “gave” His Son, the Son “obeyed,” and the Son “sent” the Holy Spirit. This was and continues to be the atonement, the reconciliation of God and man through the sacrificial life of Christ. My job is to accept what God has done by accepting His Son, and in so doing reestablish my relationship with Him. And, with this acceptance, live my life with Christ as the compass for what I do and who I am.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave…
KJ21

Today I will go to God’s altar to offer my thanks for His reconciling love, to accept what He gave.
