Today I will search my heart for the false gods (including the false god of religious pride) that blind me to the one true God and cause me to miss the shalom, serenity, and joy available to me by God’s promises and Christ’s sacrifice. But, as I cannot destroy these gods on my own, I pray the Holy Spirit to enlighten and strengthen me for the battle.
Luke 19:42
How I wish you knew today what would bring peace! But you can’t see.
Voice
Today I will lay upon God’s altar my false gods.
(See NIV Application Commentary on Luke 19:28-44 and the following, richer translation from the Amplified Bible, Classic Edition:
“Exclaiming, ‘Would that you had known personally, even at least in this your day, the things that make for peace (for freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin and upon which your peace—your security, safety, prosperity, and happiness—depends)! But now they are hidden from your eyes.’”)
