Today I will travel my own road to Emmaus, which is the road to belief. It may be a long, weary road filled with crushed expectations, but Christ pursues me through His spirit. I need only feel the Spirit’s touch on my heart and open my mind to the Scriptures to be brought from despair to hope, gloom to joy, and weakness to strength, and so renew and revitalize my life in Christ.
They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
The road to Emmaus is also the road away from Jerusalem, alway from the crucifixion. It could be the road of defeat and despair. Our prayer is that every road away from our dashed expectations is transformed into the road of hope through faith.
Today I will lay on God’s s altar all my journeys away from Him.
