Today I will focus on my relationship with God. Beginning with gratitude, I will avoid the trap of “fretting” over the gains, prosperity, and evil plotting of the “wicked” which could lead me to jealousy, anger, and resentment, and separate me from God.
The Hebrew helps to understand the importance of this message. “Fret” may be translated as “to burn with anger,” and “to rage.” To “be still” carries with it the sense of quiet rest and trust.
Psalm 37:7-8
Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret – it leads only to evil.
