Today I will battle the “distracting enemies of ideas and thoughts” (Chambers, Companion, August 23). “We must pray, not dream! Dreaming is easy. Our thoughts wander from topic to topic. Prayer is hard. We have to continually corral our thoughts by the act of our will.”

I will pray as a “good child asking for a good thing” (Chambers Companion, August 24) from a benevolent parent. My goodness comes from Christ within me and the Holy Spirit carrying my prayers for me.

Matthew 6:6
When you pray, go to your room and close the door. Pray privately to your Father who is with you.

Matthew 7:9
If your child asks you for bread, would any of you give him a stone?
God’s Word Translation

Today I will battle my distractions by an act of my will as I go to God’s altar.
