Today I will follow a better path to God’s kingdom and that is to go beyond merely complying with what the laws of the Old Testament (external requirements) demand to acting on what the spirit of the law commands as expressed by Christ. Moral and ethical correctness are not sufficient. The standard is higher and that is the righteousness (the right relationship) with Christ leading not only to right actions but to right motives, aspirations, and thoughts.
Matthew 5:20
For I tell you, unless your righteousness (your uprightness and right standing with God) is more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
